How To Make An Apology That Works

Virtual Mini-Workshop for Couples, On Your Time, From Your Couch

When something hurtful happens in your relationship, has it ever felt sufficient when your partner merely says, “I’m sorry”, and that’s the end of it? Does it repair the damage? Does it put your relationship back to “we’re good”?

Saying, “I’m sorry” after a breakdown might have a good intention, but it’s never sufficient. Why?

Because …

  • You’re still feeling hurt
  • There is no ownership of the hurtful action
  • It leaves a crack in your relationship, making it vulnerable to resentment, distrust, and disconnection
  • Every incomplete hurt makes the next one harder
  • You find it harder and harder to open your heart and body up again.

If you’re still not sure what we’re talking about, just imagine I borrowed your car, then wrecked it and came to you, saying, “I’m sorry”. Would that fix it for you?

Fortunately, it’s not difficult to deliver a heartfelt, effective apology that works. We all make mistakes. We all say things we regret afterwards. In order for your relationship to survive and flourish, it is mandatory to be able to clean up breakdowns and move forwards as friends.

In this mini-workshop, learn a simple, effective process for delivering a clean, complete apology and move on. In the time of one movie, you can learn a process that will help you clean up hurts for the rest of your life!

Here's what Ryan said about the Apologies Process:

"Your apology process is one of the most important things I learned in the workshops I’ve done with you.  I now view offering a “real” apology as a gift that I give to my partner. The coolest part is that when I offer an apology using this process, my partner almost 100% of the time melts her blockages and offers me the apology I wanted. In other words, when I take responsibility for my role in the breakdown by using this process, it creates a safe space for her to take responsibility for her role in the breakdown in a way that is deeply healing for me. This process works and has been real medicine for us." Ryan
